I've installed gnome-gmail.Chrome is set as my default browser, in System/Preferences/Preferred Applications. my x-www-browser and gnome-www-browser config are both set to /usr/bin/google-chrome-stable 200 auto mode:
EDIT: i've now made it so that all the apps which used to open firefox (including gnome-gmail) now open chrome instead, by editing /.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list and changing all instances of =firefox.desktop to =google-chrome.desktop. So, gnome-gmail now opens chrome. But, when i click on a mailto it still just opens a new empty chrome window.
Gnome Gmail
Ok, so maybe this was a bit of a waste of time since the solution has nothing to do with gnome-gmail or the default browser, but i found the answer so i'm putting it up here in case anyone else finds it useful.
mailto: links fire up annoying "Evolution Setup Assistant". I want it to open a compose window in gmail in my web browser. There are existing questions about this here, but the answers are outdated and no longer work on 11.04.
on my system: I'm using chromium browser, and I think the path goes like this chrome -> xdg-open -> gnome-open and it's evolution that is set up when I check in gconf-editor, so I changed that key to gnome-open =mailto&url=%U, but it's still firing up Evolution.
One way to change these settings is to copy the /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Evolution.desktop file to /.local/share/applications/ and set the appropriate environment variable in the copied .desktop file. For example, make the following changes to avoid using ECC ciphers with NIST/NSA curves:
I found I was unable to click on a mailto: link in evince, and the reason was that I use gnome-gmail as my mailer program. Please add gnome-gmail to the ubuntu-email abstraction. I have done this myself, and it solves the problem; my ubuntu-email file is attached to this report.

You can also obtain the extension in the form of a zip archive from the release page. Look for the latest version supporting your shell version. The extension can be installed by means of gnome-tweak-tool or alternatively by directly extracting the archive in the a directory named dash-to-dock@micxgx.gmail.com inside /.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
or download the branch from github. The master branch usually target the latest GNOME Shell version. There are gnome-3.x branch with the latest code for older versions. In case you are running a development version ( that is an even version), although the extension is not guaranteed to work, you should look for a development branch and manually add your version in the metadata.json. Sometimes the previous stable version works with minor bugs also in the development GNOME Shell.
In this workshop, each student will start by making a plan for their fairy or gnome garden. Then, we'll paint little houses, "build" miniature furniture, and create tiny decorations to accessorize our garden. After the snack, children will assemble their gardens and complete the design vision for their gardens! This one is going to be so fun!

Emily was also the instigator behind bringing the Tome Gnome to life.
I am the odd man out. I use webmail, (firefox for gmail and for yahoo). Much of my emails have embedded graphical images. With a click of the right mouse button, these embedded links open up in a second tab.
That may be the best way. In the past, one could use sendmail to relay local mail to another mail server like gmail.com. But everyone shut off the relay feature because it was being used to send spam anonymously. Another way is to create a $HOME/.forward file containing an e-mail addresses that you want to forward to. However, e-mail servers may block this too.
I fork my mail to gmail (for reading HTML-formatted messages and on tablets) then it is downloaded for reading in mutt and for archiving in mbox format. What seals the deal with mutt for me is the ability to save a thread to a file in mbox format to a descriptively named file, the full pathname of which I then paste into my to-do list. When editing the to-do list with vim, I use a custom function to call up mutt from within the editor and directly respond to the thread, and the thread itself is already archived as a searchable file. That I am aware, none of the other options listed here let you save threads, in plain text mbox format, in arbitrary locations in the filesystem, where they can be called up and processed with just one keystroke from within my editor. I cannot imagine working without this.

Now that your account is active, you can start using Google Drive. If you open "Files" you will see a new drive on the left menu with your gmail address as it's name. This is your Google Drive and you can copy, delete, and rename files from it just like you would any other folder.
Now that I have this setup, I use rsync to synchronize my Documents folder with Google Drive. Now no matter where I am I can log into my gmail account and have access to all my documents. If you are interested in how this works leave a comment below!
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience for my daughters 8th birthday. Her and all her friends had such a great time and love their gnome Yorkie puppies they made. It will definitely be one of her most memorable ones with her friends. Thank you
